Mária Krivošíková, M.Sc Title: Occupational therapy assessment of visual perception: Translation of The Developmental Test of Visual Perception for Adolescent and Adult and its pilot application in patient after Acquired Brain Injury Abstract: The thesis deals with the translation of the standardized test "The Developmental Test of Visual Perception for Adolescent and Adult, Second Edition (DTVP-A:2)". The focus of the thesis is to create a Czech version of DTVP-A:2 and its pilot testing with 4 patients who suffered Acquired Brain Injury. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the problems of Acquired Brain Injury, visual perception, visual perception disorders and assessment of visual perception from occupational therapy standpoint. The theoretical part includes a description of various individual assessment tools which are used in occupational therapy. In the practical part of the thesis the author describes the production of the data, the translation process. A one-way translation was chosen for the translation of the Examiner's Manual. The Examiner Record Form was then translated using a parallel blind technique. Furthermore, the practical part of the thesis describes 4 case studies of patients with Acquired Brain Injury. The thesis consists of two parts. The first one is a translation of a chapter from the book Räuber und Beute written by the German zoologist Michael Schröpel. The book was published in 1985 in Leipzig. The second part of this thesis is a commentary of the translation. The aim was to create a functionally equivalent translation. The commentary includes translation analysis of the source text based on the model of Christiane Nord, translation method and translation procedures, typology of translation problems and their solution and typology of translations shifts that occurred due preservation of the function of the source text.

The aim of this thesis is to translate the chapter The birth of an industry written by Douglas Bruster for the publication The Cambridge History of British Theatre. This thesis further contains a commentary of the translation. The first part of the commentary is devoted to translation analysis of the original text, the second part concentrates on description of the translation problems and their solutions. This thesis is concluded by a typology of translation shifts.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to create a functionally equivalent translation of the selected chapters of the book Anne-Sophie Mutter. Die Schönheit des Violinklanges, written by the German author Alfred Stenger. The thesis is divided into five parts. The first one is of a practical nature. It consists of a German-Czech translation. The remaining four parts are of a theoretical nature, i.e. a commentary. The second part presents a translation analysis based on the model of Christiane Nord from her book Textanalyse und Übersetzen. The next one focuses on a description of the used translation method and procedures. The fourth part deals with a typology of translation problems at different levels. The last part sums up translation shifts that occurred during the translation process.

Reading film and literature

The first aim of this thesis is to translate Brian McFarlane's essay, Reading film and literature from The Cambridge Companion to Literature on Screen, so that it can be accepted by the Czech reader. Its second task is to comment on this translation; the commentary itself is conveniently arranged in three parts. The first part is dedicated to the translation analysis of the original text, its composition and to the relevance of the source context to the target recipient. The second part methodically describes problems that arose during the translation process and outlines their solution. The last part gives an account of the typology of translation shifts and tries to give reasons for their occurrence.

The core of the bachelor's thesis is a Czech translation of the article Native American Systems of Knowledge by C. S. Kidwell published in 2002 as a chapter of A Companion to American Indian History. The second part is constituted by the commentary of the translation including the original text analysis, description of the translation method, translation problems typology along with their solutions and typology of the translation shifts. The analysis uses the model of Ch. Nord and constitutes the basis for the translation method. The further chapters deal with lexical, syntactical and presuposition problems and describe shifts that occured during the process. The commentary includes conrete examples of solutions and shifts.
